  • Born in 1922 (Geelong, Victoria), Grant Featherston is commonly regarded as Australia's most renowned furniture designer of all time. Featherston was self-taught, and before serving in the army during WWII, designed lighting and glass panels. His focus shifted to furniture after the war. His works have been featured in numerous museum exhibits and his modernist chairs, which had been featured in prominent Australian galleries such as the Peter Bray Gallery, are highly collectible works.

His most iconic work is the Contour Lounge Chair (also known as the Contour Chair R160). His works convey a strong Scandinavian influence, and in turn, became very influential in post-war "atomic-age" mid-century design. His works have received many awards, and still inspire modern designers of today. In the mid-1950's Grant formed a partnership (both professionally and in marriage) with Mary Currey. The two worked together as a team through his passing in 1995, in the fields of furniture, graphics and exhibitions.
